Loxanthocereus faustianus is a species of Loxanthocereus found in Peru.[1]
Description
Loxanthocereus faustianus grows shrubby branched from the base, forming groups of 3 to 5 terete stems, up to 40 to 45 cm centimeters long shoots that have a diameter of 30 cm long and 4 to 5 cm in diameter. The stems are covered by round grey areolas, 0.1 cm in diameter thickness and 0.3 cm in diameter with 20 to 25 yellowish to grey spines that are 1.5 to 2 cm long length. Flowers are red-orange 6.5 and 8 cm long, developing on the areoles, along the stem,
The straight or slightly curved, crooked, scarlet flowers are 4 to 9.5 inches long and 2-5 cm in diameter. The spherical fruits reach a diameter of 2 to 2.5 centimeters.[2]
Distribution
Plants are found in Lima, Peru in the valleys of Chillón, Rímac and Santa Eulalia at elevations around 1260 meters.
