Ponnagaram is a neighbourhood in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu state in the peninsular India. Former CPM MLA late N. Nanmaran was born in Ponnagaram.[1] Vikaasa group of schools has a branch viz., Vikaasa School at Ponnagaram.[2]

Ponnagaram is located at an altitude of about 161 m above the mean sea level with the geographical coordinates of 9°55′47″N 78°06′36″E / 9.929800°N 78.110100°E / 9.929800; 78.110100 (i.e., 9°55'47.3"N, 78°06'36.4"E).[3]

Ponnagaram area falls under the Madurai Central Assembly constituency.[4] The winner of the election held in the year 2021 as the member of its assembly constituency is P. T. R. Palanivel Thiagarajan.[5] Also, this area belongs to Madurai Lok Sabha constituency. The winner of the election held in the year 2019, as the member of its Lok Sabha constituency is S.
